Instructional Coaching Sessions

Week 2 - Coordination/Ball Control

Warm Up - 10 mins

The FlashMake small squares (5x5 to 8x8).  Each player starts without a ball.  One player starts at one cone outside of the square while the other player starts at a cone directly opposite. The coach designates who will be the Chaser. When coach says Chase, one of the players starts chasing the other.  If the Chaser tags the other player before they go around and back to their starting cone, they get a point.  If the player being chased gets back to their starting cone, then they get a point.

Coaching Point - Running without the ball, change of Speed, change of Direction, Balance, Coordination

Make it Fun -  Competition, keep count of points and score, winners challenge each other and rotate squares.

 The Flash vs Captain Cold - 10 mins

Each player now starts with a ball.  Same as above. One player starts at one cone outside of the square while the other player starts at a cone directly opposite. The coach designates who will be the Chaser. When coach says Chase, one of the players starts chasing the other. but this time both players with a ball.

Coaching Point - Running with the ball, Change of Speed, Change of Direction with the ball, Balance, Coordination, Both feet

Make it Fun -  Competition, keep count points and score, winners challenge each other and rotate squares you can also have the chaser without the ball to challenge the player with the ball.

Spider Man - 10 mins

Spider ManEach player has a ball.  The coach holds a soccer pinnie in each hand, two coaches can participate or one.  Instruct the players that they have to dribble the ball but don't let "Spider Man touch their ball.  If their ball gets touched with the pinnie/spider web then they have to do three toe taps and then can continue playing.

Coaching Point - Dribbling with their head up. Close control, Both feet, Dribbling to turn the ball.

Make it Fun -  Previous winner becomes Spider Man, If it becomes too easy have multiple Spider Man's

 The Chase - 10 mins

All players are gathered in one area with a ball each. Select two defenders who start without a ball

Players without a ball have to win and steal a ball from a player with a ball. That player then has to do the same but cannot steal the ball back directly from the player/defender who took it from them. It has top be different ball from a different player.

 

Coaching Point - Keep the ball close and under control, Big touches to go fast when winning the ball back. Ball control.

 

Make it Fun - Give the game a time limit, add in more defenders without  ball to make it more fun and challenging.

4v4 Game 20 mins

4v4/5v5 Game. Try to encourage them to touch the ball as many times as possible.  

Coaching Point - Diamond or Triangle Shapes, No GK. As the coach have a handful of balls ready to feed in once the ball goes out of play. Try to say to the players "whoever is in the biggest space I will roll the ball to". Also ensure when rolling the balls in that its not the same players receiving the ball. Players that may not be as involved receive the ball to ensure maximum touches.

Encourage all aspects of the session and have fun.
